Elaine designs and creates bespoke, keepsake characters and soft sculptures as well as working directly from drawings (predominantly by children but not exclusively) which she translates into constructed textile characters and forms representational of original artwork.
Each commissioned character piece is accompanied by a quirky story tag, detailing a few playful facts about their personality, likes and dislikes.
Elaine also creates very special textile pieces for children who have experienced the loss of a loved one.
Transforming drawings by children of those whom they have lost someone or creating characters with reference to photographs or descriptions, Elaine works with a great deal of sensitivity, compassion and care to create beautifully tactile, sensory pieces.
Often working with items of clothing or blankets that belonged to the loved one, Elaine takes great care while transforming the highly sensory fabrics into pieces that can be cherished forever, helping keep memories alive.
‘It smells like granda’s house did and it feels like granda. It makes me remember him’
