Elaine has spent time exploring new ideas and developing new work during a number of residencies.
As part of Aberdeen International Youth Festival in June & July 2017, Elaine and her now Studio Partner, Applied Artist Jane Ronie, displayed their work alongside an interactive ‘hot air balloon’ installation created by pupils from local schools within a unit in the Bon Accord Centre in Aberdeen.
Creating a working studio environment within the space, Elaine and Jane spent time experimenting within the space while inviting the public to observe and ask questions. They also delivered workshop sessions for groups of pre school and primary children within the space where they encouraged the children to let their imaginations take them on magical story telling adventures and expressive drawing journeys.
During a six week residency as part of Creative Learning’s Inspiration Point (An Initiative aimed at promoting and encouraging creativity within the northeast of Scotland)Elaine explored the concept of scale within her practice. Creating a number of giant textile characters which were used to promote a two day event at the Lemon Tree, Elaine also created an interactive installation for the event, hosted a number of workshops for College students and fmily friendly drop in workshops. She also worked alongside London Based designer Donna Wilson during a Personalliy Mask Making Masterclass.
